About

Kathryn Reed

Writing is an important part of who I am. After college, I began my journalism career in earnest, working as a reporter and editor for a number of prestigious publications before publishing my own online newspaper.

Now, I am taking a less structured path by writing this blog, doing contract work and focusing on book projects. Published books include:

When I’m not on the computer, I am walking dogs at the humane society to get my dog fix after losing my 19-year-old AJ, or playing tennis, hiking, working as a certified massage therapist, or discovering new places. Travel and the outdoors feed my soul. Chronicling my adventures, thoughts and experiences with words and pictures are what this blog is all about.

After three years of splitting my time between South Lake Tahoe, California, and Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico, I moved to Chico, California, in March 2021 for family reasons. I had moved to South Lake Tahoe in 2002 from the San Francisco Bay Area.

My previous work includes being an editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, Las Vegas Sun and Tahoe Daily Tribune. I have freelanced for the New York Times, Reuters, North Bay Business Journal, Sacramento Business Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, Tahoe Mountain News and other publications. My last full-time gig was as publisher of Lake Tahoe News.

I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and North American Travel Journalists Association.
