What do you think and feel when you hear or read DEI?
Is it different compared to when you hear or read diversity, equity and inclusion?
Only you know the answer and the reason.
Sometimes it’s important to spell out acronyms in order to feel, understand and appreciate the words and their real meaning.
Diversity, equity and inclusion (aka DEI) is about preventing unqualified people from being hired. It’s about not hiring unqualified white men when the Black gal, Asian guy, LGBTQ person, even the white woman are far more qualified.
Those aren’t the only types of discrimination covered by diversity-equity-inclusion; think age, not able bodied, hearing-vision impaired, and so much more.
How could anyone say diversity, equity and inclusion are bad goals?
It’s time we lose the acronym and say it/write it out in full. It’s easy to dismiss DEI. Not easy to dismiss diversity-equity-inclusion.
Our communities, states, country, and the world are better with less homogeneity. Workplaces, schools, teams—all better with diversity-equity-inclusion.
The reason diversity, equity and inclusion programs are still important is because discrimination is still very much alive. If you don’t believe this, you aren’t paying attention.
I agree!
I agree 100% with all you said. And am indeed paying close attention.
Bravo, Kae! How sad these problems still exist in our assumed enlightened world where all men¨(women, etc) are supposed to be considered equal.
