One of the beautiful things about the United States is the ability to vote without coercion, fear, or being discriminated against.

At least that’s the goal.

Our elections are free and fair. So many other countries cannot say the same thing. Some don’t even have elections. Other countries have elections that are really a sham where the votes don’t matter.

Our democracy is something to be celebrated—as well as revered. It definitely should not be taken for granted.

If you don’t believe Joe Biden was elected fairly in 2020, you are part of the problem facing the United States today. Shame on you.

No matter who you cast your ballot for this go round for president, as well as for all the down ballot races, including the local and state initiatives, it’s important to vote. Yes, your vote will be counted.

Local races are so important to pay attention to. These people likely have more of a direct daily impact on your lives. School boards, city councils, county electeds, as well as all the special districts are comprised of your neighbors. They are making important decisions.

While some won’t be voting until next month, I already voted. I have been voting by mail for more years than I can remember. Yes, mail-in ballots are secure.

Four years ago I was a poll worker when I lived in South Lake Tahoe. It’s an experience I recommend.

On Nov. 5, I plan to be glued to my television to watch the returns, realizing we might not know who the next president is that night. Maybe I’ll figure out how to make a vegetarian tater tot hotdish. I’m sure Prosecco will be part of the festivities to celebrate or drown my sorrows.
