Millions of people took to the streets on Oct. 18 in support of democracy and to denounce the current regime in Washington, D.C.

Billed as a No Kings rally, more than 2,600 were planned throughout the country.

As one sign simply pointed out: “America was founded on a simple idea … No Kings.”

It’s not just those in the United States who are worried, frustrated and angered by the direction this country is going.

The New York Times reported: “In a show of solidarity, protesters in other countries held demonstrations outside U.S. embassies, consulates or at town squares. In Paris, protesters held placards denouncing President Trump. In Germany, rallies were planned in four different cities, including one outside the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. In countries with long-established monarchies, like Britain and Spain, protesters gathered under the slogan ‘No Tyrants.’”

Thousands of people walked through downtown Chico with creative signs like “Ice is for cocktails,”  “You can’t have USA without US,” “No faux-king way,” “The only king is Burger King,” “If you vote 4 a rapist, expect to be screwed,” “The power of the people is greater than the people in power,” “Disagreeing is not treason,” “Dissent protects democracy.”

People chanted slogans like “Show me what democracy looks like; This is what democracy looks like,” and “No kings.”

At least one person in Chico was wearing a Puerto Rico shirt. People in the U.S. don’t seem to know that island is a territory of the United States’—with so many up in arms about the Super Bowl halftime show.

Following the march that had people peacefully marching on the sidewalks and stopping at all reds light, people gathered at a local park to continue the theme of solidarity. Audrey Denny, who is running to unseat the current rep in Congress, spoke a few words; giving people hope that change is possible.
