As we move on from Election Day, we all must fight to ensure the Constitution continues to be the law of the land.
No person should be above that document. After all, elected officials take an oath of office.
The presidential oath is: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The vice president, senators, representatives and federal employees say this: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
I realize a verbal oath does not bind anyone to the words they repeat; that placing their hand on a bible, the Constitution or something else is also not a guarantee of future actions.
Still, it is up to all of us to keep paying attention—no matter who you voted for.
For years I have said I believe most of us want many of the same things, we just have different ideas about how to reach the same goal.
Life is about compromise. Life is about communicating. Life is about listening. If we don’t do those things collectively, no one wins. There has to be a path where we all win.
The us vs. them isn’t getting us anywhere.
As a nation understanding the contents of our constitution is critical. Perhaps in preparation of our nations 250th celebration, all of us should read, study, and share what it say! My guess is, we can all learn a lot. You can’t defend something you don’t know enough about.
Well said.
Amen! Kae & Lisa, thank you both
We must all come together now as 1 . Also ever voter to whom vote was not counted must be vindicated and there vote counted and the person to whom illegally stopped that vote from falsely counted must be held accountable for there actions . Also we need all to march and show our unity and by numbers remove the present president and staff
